WHY TREAT?

Poultry kept both indoors and outdoors can pick up parasitic worms which live and breed in the gut and respiratory tracks. They are then passed through droppings to other poultry. Birds affected can show some of the following signs: worms visible in droppings, loss of weight, stop laying or poor quality eggs, gaping beak / stretching neck / gasping for breath, diarrhoea, anaemia, and in severe cases death.

HOW TO TREAT

Your birds will need to eat the medicated pellets for 7 consecutive days. On average a bird will eat a kilo a week. Bags of the medicated feed are sold in 5KG (suitable for up to 5 birds), 10kg (suitable for 6-10 birds) and 20kg (suitable for 11-20 birds).

There is no egg withdrawal so they remain safe to eat throughout. However birds being wormed for slaughter should not be consumed until 7 days after the end of treatment.

Worming all new birds being introduced

Worm every 3 months through the year

When possible, move runs / ranging areas to allow the ground to rest. If this is not possible then treat the area with a ground sanitiser.
